Garden Roses — Process & Time-Lapse

Hey guys! Last week I finished a painting that I have LOVED working on. Surprisingly though — The only thing more fun than working on it, was finishing it (It took me at least 10-15 hours all together!).

I wanted to share a few process photos here!

It all began when my girl Maddie Greer posted this photo to her instagram story — I knew I had to paint these INSANELY beautiful roses.

Here are a few process photos. I almost always start with the most complex part of the painting — In this case, the open rose bloom. I know that if I can get that part right, the rest will look right too! The painting was a challenge because I used Hot Press Paper for the first time. It was such a different feel than I'm used to! I felt like I had to work fast, because the pigment absorbed into the paper so much quicker than it does with Cold Press. Or at least that seemed to be my experience. If you have any insights into the mind of hot press paper, I'd love to hear them!

And here's a time-lapse of the entire process — It took me about 6 or 7 sittings to complete (as you'll notice with all the changes in lighting and my frequently shifting painting placements.)

Love always! ♥
